NDA Age Limit & Eligibility – Complete Guide

If you are planning to appear for the NDA (National Defence Academy) exam, first you need to check your age eligibility, because this is the most important thing to check before applying for the NDA exam. Every year thousands of candidates prepare for the NDA exam, but many of them are rejected in the initial stage due to age ineligibility.

So, to help you with this, we have created an NDA Age Eligibility Calculator. This tool will help you to check whether you are eligible or not, for the NDA exam based on your date of birth and the exam year, and session (NDA 1 or NDA 2).

In this guide, we will explain:

  • The NDA age limit for both NDA 1 and NDA 2
  • How the NDA age is calculated by UPSC
  • Step-by-step examples of eligibility
  • Common mistakes students make while checking their age

Why NDA Age Limit is Important

UPSC (Union Public Service Commission), which conducts the NDA exam, is very strict about eligibility. The age limit is fixed for each exam session. Even if you are one day younger or one day older, you will not be allowed to appear in exam.

So, it is very important to check your age eligibility before filling out the NDA form. This will save you from unnecessary disappointment later. Use our NDA Age Calculator above to quickly check your eligibility.

NDA Age Limit – Basic Rule

The general rule for NDA is:

  • A candidate must be between 16.5 years and 19.5 years old at the time of joining NDA.

But instead of mentioning age in years, UPSC uses cut-off dates. These cut-off dates change for NDA 1 and NDA 2 every year.

NDA Age Limit for NDA 1 and NDA 2

The NDA exam is conducted twice a year – NDA 1 and NDA 2. The age limits for both sessions are slightly different because the course start dates are different.

  • For NDA 1, Candidates must be born between 2nd July (19 years before exam year) and 1st July (16 years before exam year).
  • For NDA 2, Candidates must be born between 2nd January (18 years before exam year) and 1st January (15 years before exam year).

For example, for NDA 1 exam in 2025, the candidate must be born between 2nd July 2006 and 1st July 2009.

For NDA 2 exam in 2025, the candidate must be born between 2nd January 2007 and 1st January 2010.
